Soma Salt!🧂
The preferred salt of the Ancient Ayurvedic texts.

There are six tastes in our diets and when balanced, is key for optimal health. The six tastes are:
Sweet – madhur
Sour – amla
Salty – lavana
Pungent – katu
Bitter – tikta
Astringent – kashaya
Salty (lavana) - The one we are focused on today! :)
Only a few months into my 8-mo Ayurvedic Nutrition and Culinary Training (ANACT) program with Divya Alter (https://bvtlife.com) I was introduced to “Soma Salt and haven’t looked back!
What is it?
Soma salt is cooling rock salt extracted from the Himalayas in Sindh. There are actually 8 edible salts coming from the Himalayan mountains, but this white cooling “soma” salt undergoes a proprietary purification process to removes the metals and minerals that contain heating properties, resulting in a balanced, cooling and nurturing salt and has been tested in the lab to show it contains essential minerals such as:
Calcium: 361 mg per 100 g
Iron: 1.1 mg per 100 g
Magnesium: 102 mg per 100 g
Potassium: 1600 mg per 100 g
Sodium: 16,800 mg per 100 g
Soma salt contains very little sodium chloride, whereas most table salt is over 95% sodium chloride, which is what gives salt it’s heating (bloating) quality.
This slightly sweet, tasty salt is described
as superior with the benefits of pacifying all three doshas, increasing digestive fire to support all seven tissues, supporting reproductive tissue, longevity of the eyes that stems from liver cooling. It also does not create a digestive imbalance from excessive heat and does not have the same retention of other salts. Soma Salt is a great substitute for seasoning, cooking, and baking.
In Ayurveda, Soma Salthas long been called hṛdya—a term meaning “supportive of the heart.” Where common table salt is considered sharp, heating, and aggravating when used in excess, Soma Salt is described as cooling, soothing, and easier for the body to process. The Ayurvedic principle of moderation is key: salt is essential in small amounts, but when overused it can burden the body. Choosing a gentler salt like Soma Salt, and using it mindfully, allows for flavor and balance without the same harsh impact. - Ref. Prabhava Ayurvedic Herbals
It comes in a bag and is a fine white powder. You can fill a saltshaker as well as a small jar when you need a larger amount for recipes. So easy! Why not switch today!
Where can I buy it?
